“Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer –that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” – Steve Jobs

English Please :
Opening Letter for group exhibition, subject “Dark Times – Reflections”
By the term Dark Times, in addition to the narrow-precise meaning given to them by a historian (referring to the primigeometric and sub-American times), we tend to characterize those historical periods in which societies are tested: There is a general ambiguity and uncertainty, people are forced into forced immigration either being chased by the severity of the destruction brought about by a war or by the economic downturn imposed on their place, the social structures are collapsing, the labor relations are being looted, the peoples divided by hate religious, racial, political.
People struggle in the darkness looking for clues of hope and freedom, cracks towards a different, promising tomorrow.
The recent period that has put our country in great trouble, the upheaval in the wider Balkan region, the rise of extreme ideologies in Europe and its prevalence in several of its countries, as well as civil wars, religious fanaticism, famine – still plaguing the corners of a drained supercomputing planet – and extreme climate change have led to rapid changes in the social, political, economic but also the demographic web of the planet.
Reflections and associations are obvious.
This projection, of the dark times nowadays, is a trigger for internal processes as well as for their expression, differentiating the space and the time we live. Everyone and everything is connected. People and events are a great chain linking today with the past. Everyone carries his / her physical space and personal and social experiences and is guided by his / her individual perception, interprets and expresses them.
Art has always been inspired and inspired by its age to describe it, analyze it, deepen its causes, soothe the wound, and propose solutions. And as a mirror, it reflects and translates people to the misery. Artists from different backgrounds and with different backgrounds are invited to work with reference to how this dark age is transformed and using each one’s own expressive means to translate and transform into a visual work the personal and collective experience without any restriction.
And let’s not forget that humanity has never completely subsided to the dweller. The deepest darkness always hid the promise of a new dawn. Historically, these dark periods have always been forerunners of new, better times.
We promise this with the mysterious smile of an Archaic daughter, inviting us to this brighter tomorrow, with an invisible nod, a Renaissance Aphrodite.
